A little-known former Alabama staffer received a big raise to follow Kirby Smart to Athens.
Glenn Schumann will be paid $225,000 annually in an undefined role on Kirby Smart’s Georgia staff, according to The Macon Telegraph. Smart said Monday that Schumann “probably” would be an on-field assistant on his staff. Schumann’s Twitter bio says he’s an “assistant football coach for the University of Georgia.”
His reported salary at Georgia is a big step up from the $80,000 he made at Alabama as “player development/player personnel.” Schumann was Smart’s first hire at Georgia and worked closely with the former Alabama defensive coordinator and Alabama head coach Nick Saban in putting together Alabama’s weekly defensive gameplan.
“He knows our system,” Smart said. “He has been part of the process over there. He really knows the process and understands what I want. He’s really been my right-hand man for I guess 4-5 years now over there. He’s been an asset for the organization.”
While Smart will split his time between Tuscaloosa and Athens until Alabama’s season is over, Schumann is already on the recruiting trail for the Bulldogs.
