By Joe Vitale:
On Thursday, Georgia received a commitment from Lowndes County 3-star wide receiver Xavier Jenkins. The 6-foot-4, 190 pound playmaker was offered by Louisville but the Valdosta native quickly accepted Georgia wide receivers coach James Coley’s offer.
Jenkins is the prototypical big receiver Coley and Kirby Smart are seeking. He has the size, speed and strong hands to dominate a game and is one of the state’s best receivers.
Coach Smart is obviously pleased as he tweeted “Size! Speed! #SicEm17,” “#CommitToTheG.” last night.
In the Elite Junior Classic in Powder Springs in December, Jenkins had a game-high seven receptions for 73 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown catch. During his junior year, he led the 6-5 Lowndes Vikings with 26 receptions for 430 yards and eight touchdowns.
That’s five commits for the Georgia 2017 class, all from within the state. The Dawgs currently have the 9th-ranked 2017 class in the country.
