In this week’s edition of Keeping up with the Class of 2016, we’ll review what some of UGA’s top targets accomplished in what was, for most teams, the last week of the regular season. Without further preamble…
Jacob Eason, 5* QB, Lake Stevens HS (Lake Stevens, WA)
Jacob Eason again looked great in capping off a perfect regular season. In a blowout win, he completed 23 of 35 pass attempts for 287 yards and five touchdowns, in addition to two interceptions. Eason, who will be enrolled at the University of Georgia in under two months, finishes the season with 34 touchdowns thrown and only five INT’s. He can’t get to Athens soon enough, can he?
Elijah Holyfield, 4* RB, Woodward Academy (Atlanta, GA)
Elijah Holyfield saw major action Friday after recently overcoming a lingering foot injury. He rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown, bringing his season totals to 528 yards and 11 touchdowns in just five games. Holyfield’s Woodward squad, like Eason’s, will enter the first round of the playoffs undefeated.
Charlie Woerner, 4* ATH, Rabun County HS (Tiger, GA)
The two-way player had six catches for 93 yards and a touchdown while also recording four tackles on defense. As he has marched his Wildcats team to the state playoffs in 2015, Charlie Woerner has picked up 700 all-purpose yards and recorded eight touchdowns.
Randrecous Davis, 3* WR, Mays HS (Atlanta, GA)
The speedy Randrecous Davis recorded six receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown on Friday, bringins his season totals to 47 receptions for 830 yards and 14 TD’s. Showcasing his versatility as an athlete, the senior has also amassed 147 punt return yards and two TD’s on just 10 attempts this year.
Chad Clay, 3* CB, Peachtree Ridge HS (Suwanee, GA)
In a loss to still-undefeated Mill Creek, Clay recorded five tackles and showed off his speed with a thirty-yard punt return.
Jaleel Laguins, 4* LB, Oconee County HS (Watkinsville, GA)
Local hero Jaleel Laguins showed out on Friday, tallying eight total tackles including a tackle for loss. The senior finished his regular season with 61 total tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks and two forced fumbles.
Derrick Brown, 5* DT, Lanier HS (Buford, GA)
Brown capped off a spectacular senior season with a seven-tackle, four-tackles-for-loss, two-sack performance heading into the playoffs. He finishes his regular season with an eye-popping statline of
86 total tackles, 37.0 tackles for loss, 12.0 sacks, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, and a blocked punt.
Kyle Davis, 5* WR, Archer HS (Lawrenceville, GA)
Kyle Davis recorded only two catches for 28 yards in his final regular season game for the talent-laden Archer Tigers team. He displayed dynamic athleticism, however, by taking two carries for 40 yards. Davis totaled 640 yards and six touchdowns on 35 receptions in 2015.
Mecole Hardman, 5* ATH, Elbert County HS (Elberton, GA)
Mecole Hardman had a rough night at quarterback against Jaleel Laguins and the Oconee County Warriors, but made up for it with 73 rushing yards on 15 carries. However, the rest of his team isn’t clones of him, and his Elbert County Devils team only came away with seven points in a loss.
