By Joe Vitale:
Georgia added its eighth commitment to the Dawgs’ 2018 class in the form of four-star tight end John FitzPatrick on Thursday.
The never ending recruiting carousel continues in a big way in Athens this weekend. Already in town is the nation’s No. 1 prospect, Kennesaw quarterback Justin Fields. Fields is coming directly to the Classic City after a brief visit to Auburn. Now Kirby Smart gets to do his magic.
Joining Fields in Athens will be Peach County, four-star wide receiver Kearis Jackson. Fields and Jackson are close and having them both on campus at the same time is certainly a plus. Jackson is a strong Georgia lean and hopefully he is as influential as he is talented.
Other top recruits scheduled to be in Athens this weekend include:
Jamaree Salyer, Guard/Center, Pace Academy What made the prolific offenses of D.J. Shockley, Aaron Murray and Hutson Mason click?…..centers Ben Jones and David Andrews. Salyer is the nation’s top guard/center prospect and the most important offensive recruit for this class. The 6’3″, 290-pound Salyer is powerful, quick and bright. He’s a Georgia lean and the Dawgs are trying to hold off Clemson.
Azeez Ojulari, WDE, Marietta The four-star weakside defensive end has all the tools. He’s fast (4.7 40), quick and explosive. At 6’4″, 225 pounds, Ojulari is now considered one of the nation’s top recruits and he was outstanding at Nike’s The Opening Camp. He is a strong Georgia lean but Alabama is in the race.
Trey Hill, OG, Houston County The four-star guard is the Peach State’s No. 4 prospect and the 2nd-rated player at his position in the country. He’s huge (6’4″, 340 pounds), explosive and has excellent footwork. Jake Fromm’s former teammate is a strong Georgia lean with Florida State lurking.
Josh Vann, WR, Tucker The four-star receiver is a strong South Carolina lean but you can never have enough Tucker athletes in the pipeline. Vann is speedy and has good hands but isn’t the big receiver Coach Smart and Offensive Coordinator Jim Chaney prefer.
Tommy Tremble, TE, Wesleyan School Tremble is the son of former UGA defensive back Greg Tremble. The 3-star, 6’4″, 225- pound athlete may find the tight end position a bit crowded in Athens, especially with the commitment of FitzPatrick. He is a Notre Dame lean but Georgia has a good chance in signing the Bulldog legacy.
Rick Sandidge, DT, Concord, NC The 6’5, 290 pound Concord High Spider is the #11-ranked defensive tackle in the 2018. Would love to grab Sandidge because he is a game changer. He’s a strong South Carolina lean but come on….Columbia over Athens?
Channing Tindall, LB, Spring Valley High, SC. This will be at least the third visit to Athens for the four-star linebacker. The 6’2″, 218-pound Sandlapper is the nation’s 9th-rated outside linebacker. He is a strong South Carolina lean.
Also, 2019 four-star TE Ryland Goede, a 6’7″, 234-pound tight end from Kennesaw will be on campus. He’s a strong Georgia lean. 2019 Tallahassee four-star Cortez Andrews, the nation’s 11th-ranked safety, is visiting as well.
In addition, Georgia commits Zamir White, Chris Smith, Owen Condon and John FitzPatrick are scheduled to be in Athens this weekend. Another big opportunity for the Dawgs to secure another top recruiting class.
