By Joe Vitale:
Hapeville Charter four-star defensive back William Poole III still has Georgia and Florida as his favorites with the Bulldogs as a slight lean. The 6’0″, 180-pound Poole was impressive at the Nike+ The Opening Regional in Atlanta last week. The highly touted prospect is the nation’s No. 12 cornerback prospect and the 9th-rated player in the state. He’s a priority for defensive coordinator Mel Tucker and the Dawgs’ 2017 class.
Poole recently talked with Amos Morale of the New Orleans Time-Picayune and mentioned LSU and Auburn are still coming after him hard. He had a chance to visit Auburn a couple of weeks ago but hasn’t had the opportunity to visit Baton Rouge.
Poole plans to be at the G-Day game next month and will most likely attend Florida’s spring game.
Here are a few more excerpts from the interview.
What did you take from your recent trips to Florida and Georgia?
Really learning more about the coaching staff and learning more about the atmosphere at each school. I was planning on making an early commitment but once I went to Florida I really backed off and decided to take my time and not jump the ship on a commitment.
Have you thought about when you might commit now?
I think I’m gonna wait until I take my official visits in the fall then I’ll see.
Are pretty much locked in to that top two you mentioned earlier?
I’m definitely giving coaches a chance to recruit me. I’m not just ignoring them but I feel like it’s gonna come down between Georgia and Florida at the end.
Is LSU still a player in your recruitment?
They are still recruiting me pretty hard. Coach Orgeron called me maybe about two weeks ago — maybe it was a spring practice or a junior day — he wanted me to come down but I just couldn’t make that trip.
Is there anyone else still coming after you hard?
Coming at me hard as well is Auburn. I got a chance to go down there for a spring practice during the week about two or three weeks ago.
