Former Virginian Tech commit and All-American punter Marshall Long (China Grove, NC/South Rowan HS) has faxed in his letter of intent to the University of Georgia and is officially a Georgia Bulldog.

Undoubtedly Shane Beamer’s appointment as special teams coordinator had an influence on the 6-foot-3, 215-pound specialist, who had silently committed to Virginia Tech while Beamer was still on staff, and made his commitment public in the week following Beamer’s arrival in Athens.

Marshall punted for the East Team in the most recent US Army All-America game, where he appeared alongside recent UGA enrollees Jacob Eason, Ben Cleveland, Julian Rochester, and a slew of other Georgia commits and targets.

From what we understand, Long is not being offered a scholarship but instead a preferred walk-on role, meaning he’ll have the opportunity to earn a scholarship after offseason workouts.
